OL2000: POP3 Messages Are Lost If Outlook Does Not Save the Messages to the Inbox (273835)

SYMPTOMS

Outlook may not save Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) messages to the Inbox; those POP3 messages are lost.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if Minet32.dll, which is used to obtain the POP3 message from the server, ignores an error when Minet32.dll saves downloaded messages to the Inbox.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the following steps to leave a copy of messages on the server:
  1. In Control Panel, double-click the Mail icon.
  2. Click Internet E-mail, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Delivery, click to select the Leave a copy of messages on the server check box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
