Error Message: Event 4118: A Content Scan Could Not Be Completed on Directory. (273768)

When you create a large number of files on a computer running Index Server at a rapid pace, Index Server may cause the following event ID to occur:
Event 4118: A content scan could not be completed on directory.
Files in a directory may be missing from the index. Manually start a full rescan. CAUSE
This problem occurs because Index Server cannot index the files fast enough with the hardware resources available on the server that displays the event 4118.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, manually perform a full rescan of the directory that is listed in the error message. To do this, perform the following steps:
- In the MMC, select Index Server.
- In the left pane of the MMC, select the Directories folder for the server that is showing the error.
- In the right window, select the directory that is listed in the error message.
- Right click the folder, and then click Rescan.
- When you are prompted, choose Full (Rescan).
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
