This article describes how to identify which updates you need to install onto a computer that is running Microsoft Office 98 and Macintosh Operating System 8. x and later. To identify your current versions of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, follow the steps in the "More Information" section of this article.
To get more information and to download each update, please browse to the following Microsoft Web sites:
- The Combined Updater for Office 98 is a combination of the previously released "Unwanted Data" updater, the "Mac OS 8.5" updater, and the "Unique Identifier" updater.
- The Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition/Mac OS 9 Updater addresses three issues: creating and editing charts in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Graph on the Apple Macintosh OS 9.0, a Y2K date fix for Excel, and printing from PowerPoint to an Epson 740 printer and Epson 750 printer via the USB port.
- The Microsoft Word 98/PowerPoint 98 Updater (MS Office 98 Updater) addresses two issues: file damage when saving Word documents that contain complex formatting, especially tables; and file compatibility between PowerPoint 98 and later versions of PowerPoint for both Windows and Macintosh.
IMPORTANT: After you download these updates, you must install them in the following order:
- Combined Updater for Office 98 (CombinedUpdateForOff98.hqx/.bin)
- Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition/Mac OS 9 Updater (Office98UpdaterforMacOS.hqx/.bin)
- Microsoft Word 98/PowerPoint 98 Updater (MS Office 98 Updater or MSOffice98Updater.hqx/.bin)
