PPT2001: Unable to Save PowerPoint Movie Opened in Movie Player and PowerPoint Simultaneously (273691)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft PowerPoint Movie with PowerPoint 2001 for Mac, and you then attempt to save the movie, you may receive an error message similar to the following
The PowerPoint Movie could not be saved. It may be locked or in use. Try saving to a different filename, reducing the number of slides, or restarting your computer and trying again.
and the file is not saved.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the movie file is also open in another program.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue and successfully save changes to the file, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. Change the name or location of the file, and then click Save.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
