SYMPTOMS

When you start Internet Explorer version 5.5 from the Office Shortcut (Desktop) bar, Internet Explorer opens the MSN, The Microsoft Network Search pane. This problem can also occur if you right-click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop, and then click Open.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you start Internet Explorer from the shortcut on the Office Shortcut (Desktop) bar, which is set for the desktop bar instead of the programs bar.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
