The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Entourage 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q273538

SYMPTOMS

If you create a new message in Entourage and then drag files to the message that are from another message, the attachments in the new message may have numbers appended to the file names.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because when you use a drag-and-drop feature to attach files, a copy of the original attachment is opened in the Temp folder. The number is added to the attachment file to avoid a name conflict.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, save the attachment from the original message and then click Add Attachments.

How to Save an Attachment from a Message

To save the attachment from the original message:
  1. Open the message that contains the attachment. If the attachment window is not active, click the Attachments arrow to display the attachment.
  2. Click the attachment that you want to save, and then click Save.
  3. In the Save Attachment dialog box, click the folder in which you want to save, and then click Save.

How to Add an Attachment to a New Message

To add the attachment to the new message:
  1. Click the Message menu in the message in which you want to include the attachment, and then click Add Attachments.
  2. In the Choose Attachment box, locate the file that you saved, click Choose, and then click Send.
