ENT2001: You Cannot Enter Multiple Special Characters in a HTML Message (273526)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Entourage 2001 for Mac
This article was previously published under Q273526 SYMPTOMS
If you attempt to enter multiple special characters in a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) message in Entourage, the AutoCorrect option forces the entries to just one character. This problem affects both the asterisk (*) and underscore (_) characters. If you try to enter these characters repetitively, the text format style changes to either italic or bold, depending on the character that you entered.
WORKAROUND
Use one of the following two methods to work around this problem.
Method 1
De-activate the AutoCorrect option for the underscore and asterisk characters. This option is intended to correct certain text formats that are used in e-mail message to designate asterisk characters, bold text, and underscore characters as italic text.
To temporarily de-activate the AutoCorrect option for the underscore and asterisk characters:
- On the Format menu, click AutoCorrect.
- Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
- In Replace As You Type dialog box, click to remove the *Bold* and _italic_ with real formatting check box, and then click OK.
Method 2
Compose the message in plain text format, and then switch to HTML format before you send the message or compose the message in plain text format and then copy and paste the message into the HTML message.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
