OL2000: Media Files Do Not Play in E-mail Messages (273460)

SYMPTOMS

When you receive an e-mail message that includes a media file that is embedded as part of the message body and not as an attachment, the media file does not play when you double-click the object and you may receive the following error message:
File Path
File not found.
Please verify the correct file name was given.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because the media file is embedded into an Outlook Rich Text formatted message.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, send the message with the media file as a file attachment.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Outlook Rich Text formatted messages are the only messages that embed media files. Both plain text and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formatted messages insert media files as attachments.

The following motion media formats are affected by this problem:
  • .mpeg
  • .mp2
  • .mpe
  • .mpa
  • .mpg
  • .m1v
  • .mov
  • .qt
