Hosts to Exclude Does Not Work in Site Server Analysis Usage Import (272977)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0

This article was previously published under Q272977

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Site Server documentation for the Analysis Usage Import Server Manager, Site Properties, Excludes tab states the following:

In the Hosts to exclude box, type the IP address and domain name associated with requests you want to exclude. Use quotation marks around each entry, and separate your entries with a space. For example, "*.microsoft.com" "10.86.22.*".

However, doing this does not exclude the hosts and intranet domains.

CAUSE

Quotation marks around the IP address and domain name are not required.

RESOLUTION

Remove the quotation marks ("10.86.22*") in Hosts to Exclude and specify the IP address and hosts separated by a space. For example:

msn.microsoft.com intranet.microsoft.com 10.86.11* 10.78.*

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Site Server 3.0 documentation.

MORE INFORMATION

After you remove the quotation marks and specify the new configuration on the Hosts to Exclude tab, re-import the log files. To do this, from the View menu, start the Import History Manager, and then delete the existing log files. Any changes made to the Site properties requires you to re-import the log files.

If you do not want to change the Hosts to Exclude configuration or delete the log files that have already been imported, you can alternatively exclude the hosts from the Report Writer tool Calculation properties by adding filters for IP Addresses and domain names that you want to exclude.
