This article describes how to change the audio levels between the soundtrack of a media file and a track added to a project in Microsoft Windows Movie Maker.

If you cannot hear a narration track over the ambient sounds in the original content, you must change the audio levels between the added soundtrack and the audio embedded in the original content. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open a project file that contains the added audio track in Timeline view.
  2. Start Windows Movie Maker.
  3. Click a project and move the files to the workspace area. If the project is in Storybook view, change the setting to Timeline view.
  4. Right-click the Mixer icon on the lower-left side of the timeline, and click Set Audio Levels, or click Audio Levels on the Edit menu.
  5. Click Play Entire Storyboard/Timeline to review your project.
  6. Adjust the control on the left of the timeline to decrease the input of the added soundtrack and adjust the control on the right to decrease the input of the embedded soundtrack of the original content.

    NOTE: This setting does not increase the volume of either track.
