MacXL: New Row Added in Previous Version Is Not Included in List Object (272887)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q272887

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, when you add a new row of data to the bottom of a list object in a workbook that was created in Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac, the new row of data is normally added to the list when you open the workbook again in Excel 2001.

However, if you delete a row of data from the list object, as well as add a new row in Excel 98, the new row of data may not be included in the list object when you open the workbook again in Excel 2001.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the List Manager is a new feature in Excel 2001, and earlier versions of Excel may cause unexpected behavior or loss of data when they are used to edit files containing list objects.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, in Excel 2001, select the data that is outside of the list object and drag it into the list.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
