WD2001: Word Quits Unexpectedly When You Scroll Down a Merge Field List That Crosses the Control Strip (272816)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh
This article was previously published under Q272816 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to insert merge fields from a data source that contains more than 34 fields, the list of fields becomes a drop-down list that you can scroll up or down to view all the fields. If this list crosses the Control Strip at the bottom of the screen, and you move the mouse pointer to the location where the Control Strip and the list intersect, Microsoft Word quits unexpectedly and displays the following error message:
The application "Microsoft Word" has unexpectedly quit, because an error of type 2 occurred.
You should save your work in other open applications and restart the computer.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
- Hide the Control Strip if a drop-down list intersects it at the bottom of the screen.
- Move the Data Merge Manager as far as possible to the right so that the list does not intersect with the Control Strip.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
