The multiplication symbol (an extended character of a font) is incorrectly pasted as the infinity symbol when you copy from a Macintosh text editor, such as SimpleText, into a Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition document.
WORKAROUND
To insert symbols not found on the keyboard into a document, follow these steps:
- In Word, open an existing document or create a new document.
- Click where you want to insert the character.
- On the Insert menu, click Symbol. On the Symbols tab, select Symbol in the Font list box.
- Double-click the character that you want to insert into the document.
