The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 for Macintosh
This article was previously published under Q272787 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to use Microsoft PowerPoint or a movie player to open a PowerPoint Movie file created with PowerPoint 2001 for Mac, you may receive an error message similar to either of the following
PowerPoint can't open the type of file represented by file name
Couldn't open the file file name because the file is not a movie file.
and the file is not opened as expected.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if PowerPoint or the movie player interprets the movie file as corrupted. This can occur if the first slide or all slides in a presentation are hidden when the movie file is created. Slides that are marked as hidden are not displayed in slide shows or movies.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- In PowerPoint, open the original presentation that was used to make the PowerPoint Movie file.
- Select the first slide.
- On the Slide Show menu, click to clear Hide Slide.
- On the File menu, click Make Movie, make any needed changes in the default settings, and then click Save.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
