XADM: Windows 2000 Requirements to Run Exchange 2000 (272691)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q272691

SUMMARY

Exchange 2000 environments require that global catalog servers and Active Directory Connectors (ADCs) have Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on them for proper operation. You must also run Windows 2000 SP1 on the servers that host Exchange 2000. It is strongly recommended that the global catalog servers that run the Exchange 2000 ADC also have Windows 2000 SP1 installed on them.

MORE INFORMATION

All Windows 2000 domain controller and global catalog servers must have Windows 2000 SP1 and the fixes documented in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:

257357 Performance Degradation When Heap Is Fragmented

271907 Error SC_E_LOGON_DENIED After a Reset of Local Machine Account Password

These fixes are rolled into the post-SP1 hotfix for Windows 2000, documented in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

271976 Hotfix Rollup Package Corrects Problems in Q257357 and Q271907

All other non-global catalog and non-domain controller Exchange 2000 servers, ADC servers, or Exchange Conferencing servers require Windows 2000 Service Pack 1

NOTE: We only technically enforce an SP1 requirement for the Exchange 2000 Setup program. This enforcement is not in place for the other Setup programs.
