Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration Methods Do Not Accept IP Addresses With Zero Octets (272617)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation 1.5, when used with:
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT

This article was previously published under Q272617

SYMPTOMS

The following Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration methods return an "Invalid IP Address" (70) result code when they are passed with an IP address with an octet set to the value 0 (zero):
  • SetGateways
  • SetWINSServer
  • EnableDNS
  • SetDNSServerSearchOrder
For example, these methods do not properly handle the IP address 192.168.0.3 because the third octet is set to 0.
