SYMPTOMS

When you run a slide show in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, it may take significantly longer than in Microsoft PowerPoint 97. The presentation may appear to run even more slowly on faster computers that have faster processors and more memory.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you assign an entry animation or sound to text boxes or other objects in your presentation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).

To assign an entry animation or sound to an object, follow these steps:
  1. Select the object.
  2. On the Slide Show menu, click Custom Animation.
  3. Click the Effects tab.
  4. Under Entry animation and sound, click the settings that you want, and then click OK.
