Cannot Transmit Frames Using Network Monitor Version 2.0 on Windows 2000 (272331)

SYMPTOMS

When you configure the Allow Transmit option in the Microsoft Network Monitor tool, you may receive the following error message:
Unable to set up to transmit.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the device driver for Network Monitor version 2.0 cannot be installed on Microsoft Windows 2000. The device driver that comes with Windows 2000 can be loaded, but it does not support the transmission of frames.

RESOLUTION

To enable the transmission of frames, use the full version of Network Monitor 1.0 or 2.0 on Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
