PIP2001 Error Message: A Required .Dll File, Msjet40.dll Was Not Found (272312)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:
A Required .dll file, Msjet40.dll was not found.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions are true:
  • The Msjet40.dll file is damaged or missing.
  • Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is not installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type msjet40.dll.
  3. In the Look in box, click the hard disk on which Microsoft Windows is installed.
  4. Click Find Now.
  5. Right-click the Msjet40.dll file, and then click Rename.
  6. Type Msjet40.old, and then press ENTER.
  7. Close the Files Named Msjet40.dll dialog box.
  8. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Close Program dialog box.
  9. Quit all programs except Explorer and Systray (which are parts of Windows).

    To quit a program, click the program, and then click End Task. If you receive a message stating that the program is busy or not responding, click End Task again.
  10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 until you quit all unnecessary programs.
  11. Insert the Disc 1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, where Disc 1 is the first CD-ROM for the program that you are using. Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Setup from starting automatically.
  12. Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
  13. Right-click the CD-ROM drive icon, and then click Explore.
  14. Double-click the PIP folder.
  15. Double-click the Redist folder.
  16. Double-click the MDAC folder.
  17. Double-click the Mdac_typ.exe file.
  18. Follow the instructions on the screen to install MDAC.
