XADM: Single Instance Ratio Counter Appears Inaccurate (272310)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q272310 SYMPTOMS
When you add the Single Instance Ratio counter in Performance Monitor, the value that is displayed may appear to be inaccurate.
This problem can occur if a small number of messages are sent to a large number of recipients on an Exchange 2000 Server computer, which may cause the value that is associated with the Single Instance Ratio counter to be larger than expected.
RESOLUTION
As the total number of messages on the server increases over time, the value typically becomes more accurate. You do not need to perform any action for this to occur.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. MORE INFORMATION
The Single Instance Ratio value represents an approximation of the average instances of every message in the information store. This value is calculated based on the number of rows in the message folder table and the number of rows in the message table. Because multiple message folders are created for each recipient on the server, the total number of message folders can be much higher than the total number of messages, particularly when a server is initially created. As the number of messages that are stored on the server increases, the number of message folders does not increase proportionally, and therefore the ratio typically becomes more accurate over time.
