SYMPTOMS

When you double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop, your computer may access the floppy drive for several seconds before displaying the contents of My Computer.

CAUSE

This behavior can be caused by an incorrect registry value.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Navigate to the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    Note: The value of the NoDriveTypeAutoRun entry should be 95 00 00 00, if it is not, continue to step 3.
  3. Double click NoDriveTypeAutoRun.
  4. Change the Binary Value to 95 00 00 00.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Close Registry Editor.
  7. Restart the computer for the changes to take affect.
