The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q272015

SUMMARY

Office 2001 for Mac uses the graphic filters that it installs, along with the converters that are installed with QuickTime. This allows you to use a standard set of filters that are available on both the Macintosh platform and the Microsoft Windows platform to open and convert images. Using the QuickTime filters allows Office programs to access more filters, while increasing speed and memory efficiency.

NOTE: For a list of the graphic filters that are included with Office 2001 for Mac, please refer to the "More Information" section of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The following graphic filters are installed with Microsoft Office 2001:

  • Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG, JFIF)
  • Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) Import
  • PICT
  • Portable Network Graphics (PNG)
  • Tagged Image File Format (TIFF)
  • Windows Metafile (WMF, EMF)
Office 2001 installs the native graphic filters in the Graphic Filters folder, which is in the Shared Applications folder in the Microsoft Office folder.

NOTE: Office does not include a graphics converter for the AppleWorks Draw program. One way to access these graphics is to insert the graphic into an AppleWorks word-processing file and save the document. Then open the document in an Office 2001 program.

QuickTime Filters

The QuickTime filters that are available in Office 2001 may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Targa (TGA, TPIC)
  • QuickTime TIF (QTIF)
  • Photoshop Document (PSD, 8BPS)
  • Silicon Graphics Incorporated (SGI)
  • FlashPix (FPIX, FPX)
  • Macintosh Paint (PNTG)
The QuickTime Filters are installed with the QuickTime Application and are located within the QuickTime extension.

NOTE: Targa graphics (TGA) allow you to insert a graphic that has true color images.

Because more filters are installed and available with the newer versions of QuickTime, it is suggested that you install QuickTime 4.2.1 or later on your computer. To verify which version of QuickTime is installed on the computer, follow these steps:
  1. On the Apple menu, click Control Panels and then click QuickTime Settings.
  2. In the QuickTime Settings dialog box, click About QuickTime on the drop-down list.
The QuickTime Settings dialog box displays the version number and a Web site where you can access the Apple Web site to download a newer version, if necessary.
