This article was previously published under Q271994

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Windows 2000-based computer that is running the Network Address Translation (NAT) service, the following event ID may be logged in the system log (even though the NAT service is functioning):
Event ID: 30012
Source: ipnathlp
Category: None
Type: Warning
Description: The DHCP allocator detected network address translation (NAT) enabled on the interface with index 'INDEX'. The allocator has disabled itself on the interface in order to avoid confusing DHCP clients.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the NAT service logging level is set to log errors and warnings. The message in the above section is a warning that states that the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) allocator service is not binding to the public interface. This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the logging level of the NAT service to log only errors.
