SBS: Computers Missing from List in the Manage Computers Directory of the SBS Console (271849)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5
This article was previously published under Q271849 SYMPTOMS
When trying to manage computers that were previously set up in the Small Business Server (SBS) Console, located in the More Tasks and Manage Computers directory of the SBS Console menu, the list of computers installed on the SBS Console is empty.
CAUSE
One or more SBS Console-installed resource components, in the form of directories and files, is missing, corrupt, or has incorrect permissions set. These components can be found under the parent directory, C:\SmallBusiness, and include directories that are named with the client computer name. The computer folder also contains a file named MachineArchitecture that is vital in order for the computer to be displayed in the SBS Console. If the permissions on a parent directory are set incorrectly, the SBS Console may not be able to create the computer folder, and its files.
RESOLUTION
For each of the resources listed in the "More Information" section of this article, confirm their existence, verify their permissions, and then make sure that they are set to the system defaults.
