This article was previously published under Q271806

SYMPTOMS

You can connect the Exchange Server 5.5 Exchange Server Administrator program to an Exchange 2000 Server computer that is running the Site Replication Service (SRS), but when you attempt to run the Knowledge Consistency Checker, you receive the following error message:
Knowledge consistency has been successfully verified
The available memory is not sufficient. Close some applications or windows, and try again.
Microsoft Exchange Administrator
ID no:c10306a7
You run the Knowledge Consistency Checker from the Administrator program as follows:
  1. Click to expand the Site container, click to expand the Configuration container, and then click to expand the Servers container.
  2. Click the Exchange 2000 server that is running the SRS.
  3. In the right pane, double-click either Directory Service or Microsoft Exchange Site Replication Service (depending on which name is displayed) to open the properties.
  4. The Check Now and Update Now buttons are displayed on the General tab. If you click Check Now, you run the Knowledge Consistency Checker.

CAUSE

The Knowledge Consistency Checker in the Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program is not the same site Knowledge Consistency Checker that is used in Exchange 2000. The application programming interface (API) for the site Knowledge Consistency Checker is not the same as the Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program Knowledge Consistency Checker; therefore, you cannot use the Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program to initiate a knowledge consistency check.

RESOLUTION

This behavior is by design. There is no longer a Knowledge Consistency Checker in the user interface (UI) in Exchange 2000. This is replaced by the site Knowledge Consistency Checker, which is not exposed in the UI.
