XFOR: Exchange Server Users Not Receiving Free and Busy Results from GroupWise (271743)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 SP3
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server SP3
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q271743 SYMPTOMS When users perform free and busy queries from Exchange
Server 5.5 Service Pack 3 to Novell GroupWise 5.x across the Exchange Calendar
Connector, the queries may not return the free and busy results for the
GroupWise user. If you set diagnostic logging to maximum, Windows NT Event
Viewer displays several 6001 event messages. Some of the event messages contain
the following descriptions:
Event ID: 6001
Source: MSExchangeCalCon
Type: Informational
Description: Unable to find Requestor in Directory.
Event ID: 6001
Source: MSExchangeCalCon
Type: Informational
Description: HrProcessNext Transaction Failed.
When Exchange users perform free and busy queries to
Novell GroupWise or Lotus Notes by using the Microsoft Exchange Calendar
Connector, the queries do not return the results for the foreign user. In
Microsoft Outlook, the foreign users' calendars appear empty, as if there is no
data in their calendars on the foreign system. This occurs because Calendar
Connector Synchronization created the foreign user's objects in the
Schedule+Free/Busy folder, but no data is populated for that user. Note You can verify this by using the Mdbvu32.exe or equivalent
utility to log into the Schedule+Free/Busy folder, and then make sure that the
foreign user's UID is in this folder. CAUSE This issue may occur if the system attendant does not have
a GroupWise address. This issue may also occur if the Microsoft System
Attendant mailbox does not have a foreign address, such as GWISE or NOTES. One
possible reason for this in Exchange 2000 is that the foreign address (GWISE or
NOTES) has not been selected in the Default Recipient Policy, but there may be
other causes. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue in Exchange Server, follow these
steps:
- In the Exchange Server Administrator program, open the
system attendant properties, click Server, and then click Server Name.
- Click Private Information Store, click Mailbox Resources, and then add a GroupWise address. To use the proper GroupWise
address format, use an Exchange Server user to obtain the correct GroupWise
domain and post office, and then use the name of the Exchange Server system
attendant for the name, for example:
gwise:{domain.postoffice.exchange_server_name-system_attendant....usdomain.uspostoffice.exchange-system_attendant
To resolve this issue in Exchange 2000, the foreign proxy
address must be manually added to the System Attendant mailbox in the Active
Directory directory service. To do so, follow these steps. Warning If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other
LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active
Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require
you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server,
or both. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly
modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these
attributes at your own risk.
- Install the Windows 2000 Support Tools from the Windows
2000 Server CD.
- Open ADSI Edit or the LDP utility, and then locate the
Microsoft System Attendant mailbox. To do so, follow these steps:
- Expand Configuration,
(CN=Configuration,DC=<domain>,DC=<com>), expand
Services, expand Microsoft Exchange, and then
expand Organization Name.
- Expand Administrative Groups, expand
First Administrative Group, expand
Servers, expand Server Name, and
then click Microsoft System Attendant.
- Right-click Microsoft System Attendant, and
then click Properties.
- In the Select a property to view box,
click proxyAddresses.
- In the Values box, verify that the foreign
address (GWISE or NOTES) is not present.
- In the Edit Attribute box, type the
address for the System Attendant mailbox. For example,
GWISE:ReproExDomain.ExPO.ReproEx2k-SA or NOTES:Microsoft System Attendant/First
Administrative Group@Exchange.
- Click Add, verify that the new address was
added to the Values box, and then click OK.
- Restart the Exchange Calendar Connector, and then verify
that Free/Busy information from the foreign mail users is being
populated.
