SUMMARY

Due to changes in the schema architecture in Oracle 8i, Release 1 (version 8.1.5), many of Oracle's more complex features, such as database diagrams and new table creation, are not supported by the data tools in Visual Studio 6.0. However, the Visual Studio 6.0 data tools do support these features with Oracle version 8i, Release 2 (version 8.1.6).

The following list documents the compatibility of the Visual Studio 6.0 data tools with specific versions of Oracle:

Oracle 7.3: All features are supported, including generic querying, table creation, stored procedure, and view and database diagram creation.

Oracle 8.0: All 7.3 features are supported, but new 8.0 schema-specific features are not supported.

Oracle 8i, Release 1 (version 8.1.5 and later): Only generic querying is supported. Table creation, stored procedure, and view and database diagram creation are not supported.
