OFF2000: "Please Insert the Disk: ..." Message When You Install SR-1 from July 2000 MSDN on DVD (271703)

This issue applies to Office 2000 SR-1 included with MSDN Universal Subscription on DVD, July 2000 Edition.

SYMPTOMS

During installation of Office 2000 SR-1 included on Disk 4 Office Test Platform & Development Tools DVD of the July 2000 MSDN Universal Subscriptions on DVD media, you receive the following message:
Please insert the disk: Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Premium.
This occurs even when the CD is in the CD-ROM drive. When you click OK, you continue to receive the previous message. There is no Browse button in the dialog box.

NOTE: This problem may occur when you try to install Disc 2 (CD2) as well as when you try to install Disc 1 (CD1).

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
  • The original Office 2000 is installed on your computer.
  • You run Setup.exe to install the full product Office 2000 SR-1 that is included in the DVD media distributed in MSDN Universal Subscriptions July 2000 Edition.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must remove the installed version of Office 2000 and then install Office 2000 SR-1 that is included with MSDN Universal Subscriptions. After you receive the message in the "Symptoms" section of this article, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Add/Remove. If you installed Microsoft Office from a CD-ROM, you are prompted to insert CD1.
  3. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Remove Office. If you are prompted to restart the computer after Setup is completed, restart the computer.
  4. Insert the Disk 4 Office Test Platform & Development Tools DVD of the July 2000 MSDN Universal Subscriptions on DVD media into the DVD drive.
  5. Using Windows Explorer, browse to the \o2kprem\cd1 folder, and double-click Setup.exe to start Office 2000 SR-1 Setup. Follow the directions to install Office 2000 SR-1.
  6. Repeat the preceding steps, if necessary, for Office 2000 SR-1 Disc 2. The folder for Office 2000 SR-1 Disc 2 is \o2kprem\cd2.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
