Error Message: Mplayer2 Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Kernel32.dll (271662)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Media Player 6.1
- Microsoft Windows Media Player 6.4
This article was previously published under Q271662 SYMPTOMS
When you try to play a movie in Microsoft Windows Media Player, you may receive the following error message:
Mplayer2 caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll
Also, your computer may not respond or Windows Media Player may display only a black screen instead of active video content.
CAUSE
An incompatible display adaptor or display adaptor driver can cause this behavior.
RESOLUTION
You must obtain an updated driver for your display adaptor.
Device drivers are provided by your hardware manufacturer. They can be obtained (downloaded) from your hardware manufacturer's Web site.
WORKAROUND
If an updated display adaptor does not resolve the behavior, your problem may be caused by Microsoft Windows sending information to your video card faster than your video card can process it. This type of behavior is observed mostly on older video cards. If this is the problem, you can work around this behavior if you turn down hardware acceleration in Windows.
To turn down hardware acceleration in Windows, follow these steps: - In Control Panel, double-click System.
- Click the Performance tab, and then click Graphics.
- The Hardware Acceleration slider has four settings: Full, Most, Basic, and None. Select the proper setting.
- Restart your computer.
If you still receive an error message, redo the steps 1 through 3 and choose another setting.
