XADM: How to Add a Node to an Exchange 2000 Cluster (271651)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
  • the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000

This article was previously published under Q271651

SUMMARY

The recommended way to set up Microsoft Exchange 2000 on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Cluster Server is to install Exchange 2000 on each node of the Cluster. If this was not done or a node is added, this article explains how to add Exchange 2000 to that node.

MORE INFORMATION

If you try to move the Exchange 2000 group to a newly added node, the move does not work and you receive the following error message:
An error occurred attempting to move the "Exchange" group:
The cluster node was not found.
Error ID:5042(000013b2).
After a node is added to a Windows 2000 cluster server, that node needs to be added to the list of possible owners for each Exchange 2000 resource. This is done automatically for the Disk, IP and Network Name resources and for each Exchange 2000 resource except for the System Attendant resource in the Exchange 2000 group.

To add the new node as a possible owner of the System Attendant resource, follow these steps:
  1. Start Cluster Administrator.
  2. Click to expand the Exchange group.
  3. Double-click System Attendant.
  4. Click Possible Owners Modify.
  5. Click the new node under Available Nodes.
  6. Click the right arrow button to add this node to the Possible Owners list.
  7. Click OK.
