Error Message When You Try to Use Dcpromo (271628)

SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following error message when you try to run the Active Directory Installation Wizard (Dcpromo.exe) on a domain controller.
The wizard cannot contact the DNS server that handles the name "domain" to determine if it supports dynamic update. Confirm your DNS configuration, or install and configure a DNS server on this computer.

CAUSE

The network adapter on the server is disabled and the wizard is trying to locate the Domain Name System (DNS) server through the disabled network adapter to query for existing entries for the domain.

RESOLUTION
