To improve game performance in Golf 2001 Edition, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.

Check System Requirements

Quit Unnecessary Programs

To increase the amount of available system resources, quit any unnecessary programs that are running on your computer before you start Golf 2001 Edition.

NOTE: When you play Golf 2001 on a computer that is running low on system resources, the game may run slowly or the game may stop responding (hang).

To quit all unnecessary programs:

1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
2. In the Close Program dialog box, click any program except Explorer or Systray, and then click End Task.
   
   If you receive a message stating that the program is busy or not responding, click End Task again.
3. Repeat these steps to quit all programs except Explorer and Systray, which are components of Microsoft Windows.

NOTE: Some programs start automatically every time you start your computer. For information about how to prevent a program from starting automatically, please see the documentation or the online Help file for the program.

Reduce the Screen Resolution and Color Palette Settings

If Golf 2001 Edition is configured to run at a screen resolution higher than 800 x 600 pixels or with a color palette greater than 16 bit (65 thousand colors), select a lower screen resolution and color palette setting.

To select a lower screen resolution and palette setting in Golf 2001:

1. Start Golf 2001 Edition.
2. On the Startup screen, click Options.
3. Click Advanced, and then click Display Settings.
4. Under Display Mode, click 800 x 600 16 bit (65 thousand colors).
5. Click OK, and then click Close.

Defragment the Hard Disk

To defragment the hard disk in Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Defragmenter.
