Membership Does Not Remove Group Members with Special Characters in the Member Name (271570)

Microsoft Site Server 3.0 Membership Server does not remove group members when the member is deleted from the database and the member name contains a special character (such as >) in it.
CAUSE
When the Membership LDAP Server attempts to remove deleted members from groups, it does not properly escape special characters. This causes data corruption in the database because the member is not properly removed from all groups.
RESOLUTIONA supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Site Server service pack that contains this hotfix. The Storedb.dll file has been modified to escape the member name before it attempts to remove it from the groups.
