Error Message: Not All Files Necessary to Perform an Integrated Installation Are Present (271371)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP1
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP1
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP1

This article was previously published under Q271371

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to update your distribution share by using the integrated installation switch that is included with the Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) download file (Sp1network.exe), or the Service Pack 2 (SP2) download file (W2ksp2.exe), you may receive the following error message:
Not all files necessary to perform an integrated installation are present.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you only copy the i386 directory to the distribution share. An integrated install expects to refresh the entire contents of the product CD-ROM installation point.

To perform an integrated install you must copy the entire contents of the product CD-ROM to the distribution share.

RESOLUTION

To complete a successful integrated installation, follow the steps that are outlined in the Windows 2000 SP1 and SP2 Deployment Guide (Spdeploy.doc) in the section titled "Creating an Integrated Installation."

MORE INFORMATION

The following information is found in the "Command-line Switches for Sp1network.exe" section in the Windows 2000 SP1 Deployment Guide:

If Sp1network.exe is started with any other command-line switches, it assumes that these commands are for Update.exe and forwards them to \i386\Update\Update.exe accordingly.

In the Windows 2000 SP2 Deployment Guide, the following information is found in the "Command-line Switches for W2ksp2.exe" section:

If Wk2sp2.exe is started with any other command-line switches, it assumes that these commands are for Update.exe and "forwards" then to \Update\Update.exe accordingly.

This information implies that if you use the /s switch with Sp1network.exe or W2ksp2.exe, you are able to successfully complete an integrated installation. However, this information is incorrect.
