SUMMARY

By default, when you add Windows 2000 Professional-based workstations in a Windows NT 4.0 domain, Administrative or Server Operator credentials are required. In some environments, providing Administrative or Server Operator credentials is impractical for installation purposes. This article describes methods you can use to add workstations to the domain during or after installation without requiring Administrative or Server Operator credentials.

MORE INFORMATION

To make it possible for users without Administrative or Server Operator credentials to add Windows 2000 workstations to your domain, use one of the following methods:
  • Before you install the workstations, create a computer account in Server Manager for each workstation that will become a member of the Windows NT 4.0 domain.
  • Grant the user who will be completing the workstation installations the "Add Workstations to Domain" right. For additional information about the Add Workstations to Domain right, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Note For compatibility, the Windows NT 4.0 domain controllers must be running Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 or later.
