Hibernation May Cause Icon Video Corruption (271309)

SYMPTOMS

If you set the system standby timer to one minute and the system hibernation timer to two minutes in the Power Options tool in Control Panel and then let the computer enter Standby and then Hibernate mode automatically while Control Panel is open, the icons in the dialog boxes may be corrupted when you resume the computer from Hibernate mode. The video corruption may not occur until this cycle is repeated several times.

CAUSE

This behavior is caused by problems with the computer BIOS and the video drivers. This behavior has occurred on computers that use the following video adapters:
  • ATI
  • NeoMagic

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use any of the following methods:
  • Lower the video acceleration by one notch:
    1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
    2. On the Settings tab, click Advanced.
    3. Click Troubleshooting, and then move the Acceleration slider one notch to the left.
  • Do not set the standby timer to one minute and hibernation timer to two minutes.
