ISA Server can split live WMT streams by using WMT Server on the internal network or by using WMT on the ISA Server computer. This feature helps reduce the bandwidth that is used for the stream by a factor of n:1, where n is the number of internal client computers that are viewing the same live stream.

After you install WMT Server on the ISA Server computer, WMT Server listens on port 1755 (MMS Port) on all network adapters (internal and external). The actual service name that is displayed in the services list is "Windows Media Unicast Service". However, if you install WMT Server on the ISA Server computer, a port conflict may occur, and ISA Server may not be able to publish any server on a port that is already in use. In this case, the port in use is port 1755.

To use the live stream splitting functionality, the Nsumps.dll file must be present on the computer, and you must register the Nsumps.dll stub file. ISA Server Setup does not register this file to prevent a conflict from occurring with a working WMT Server computer. Nsumps.dll is normally installed during WMT Server installation. WMT Server is an optional component of Windows 2000 Server and later versions.

To enable the live stream splitting functionality, install WMT Server on the computer. WMT Server publishing is then disabled on ISA Server. Use either of the following methods to resolve port conflict when you install WMT Server on an ISA Server computer:

• Install the specific Nsumps.dll file, but do not install WMT Server. To do so, copy the file from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM (or service pack update), and then run the regsvr32 command to register the file.

• Install WMT Server, and then disable the Windows Media Unicast Service by using the Services snap-in in the operating system.
