SYMPTOMS

When you configure a multiple input device, such as the Gadget Labs Wave/824 capture device, you may receive the following error message when you start the Encoder:
Audio device already in use

RESOLUTION

Check to ensure that the sampling rate is the same for each device. Most devices allow you to pick sampling rates that are multiples of either eight or 11.

For example, you can set the Sample Rate on the Gadget Labs card to 8 KHz, 16 KHz, and 32 KHz, or you can set it to 11 KHz, 22 KHz, or 44 KHz. If all of the devices are set to use the same pattern, then the Encoder works properly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Encoder version 7.0.
