At the end of an encoding session, Windows Media Encoder completes indexing and does not display an error message. However, when the file is played back, you may not be able to seek within parts of the file if the file is very large.
CAUSE
The file is indexed, however, limitations in the player prevent seeking in certain sections.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Player versions 6.4 and 7. MORE INFORMATION
Depending on the profile that was selected during an encoding session, the .wmv file may be very large for a specific amount of time. A .wmv file that is larger than 20 gigabytes (GB) can contain up to 60 or 70 hours of content.
With Windows Media Player 6.4, you can seek only through the first 13.5 hours of content in one file.
With Windows Media Player 7, you can seek to any point in the file and receive the proper content. However, if the content occurs beyond the 24 hour mark, the counter stops updating, and it appears as if there is a problem even though the index is there.
