This article is intended to provide supplemental information about the Optimization settings in Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 when you create PowerPoint Movie files.

The Optimization setting is in the Movie Options dialog box. The Movie Options dialog box can be displayed through one of the following methods.

Method 1: Make Movie

  1. On the File menu, click Make Movie.
  2. Click Adjust settings, and then click Next.

Method 2: Save As

  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. Select PowerPoint Movie in the Format list, and then click Options.
The following table explains each of the settings:

SettingExplanation
Automatic (Normal)Default settings are used.
SizeGraphics changed to 8-bit and compression is set for smallest file size, with some loss of color quality.
Smooth PlaybackDefault settings are used.
QualityGradient backgrounds use 32-bit pixels, and graphics and video compression are set to retain quality, leading to better quality but larger file size.
