SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use any program within Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1, you may be prompted to register from the Office Registration Wizard before you can use the program.

CAUSE

This prompt appears when you install the full package Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 product.

NOTE: This prompt does not appear when you update Office 2000 by using the Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Update.

MORE INFORMATION

The Office Registration Wizard is a new anti-piracy technology in shrink-wrapped Office 2000 products. It is designed to be simple and unobtrusive while protecting customer privacy by allowing anonymous registration. When you install the product, you are asked to register. You can register via the Internet, e-mail, phone, fax, or postal mail. You can use the product up to 50 times without registering, after which you must register in order to continue using the product. When you register, you are asked to provide a 16-character installation ID and the name of the country from which you are registering. The Microsoft Registration Center then returns an 8-character confirmation code that verifies installation of the product.
