This article was previously published under Q270927 SYMPTOMS When you attempt to use any program within Microsoft Office
2000 SR-1, you may be prompted to register from the Office Registration Wizard
before you can use the program. CAUSE This prompt appears when you install the full package
Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 product.
NOTE: This prompt does not appear when you update Office 2000 by using
the Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Update. MORE INFORMATION The Office Registration Wizard is a new anti-piracy
technology in shrink-wrapped Office 2000 products. It is designed to be simple
and unobtrusive while protecting customer privacy by allowing anonymous
registration. When you install the product, you are asked to register. You can
register via the Internet, e-mail, phone, fax, or postal mail.
You can use the product up to 50 times without registering,
after which you must register in order to continue using the product. When you
register, you are asked to provide a 16-character installation ID and the name
of the country from which you are registering. The Microsoft Registration
Center then returns an 8-character confirmation code that verifies installation
