How to Update Your Administrative Installation of Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a with the Word Mail Command Security Update

NOTE: In order to install this update, you must have write access to the administrative installation point on the network server and have appropriate privileges to carry out the task.

  1. Browse to the following Microsoft Web site:

    http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm#wordmcsec
  2. Click to download Wd2ksec_a.exe.
  3. In the File Download dialog box, click Save this program to disk, and then click OK.
  4. Save the file to your desktop.
  5. In Windows Explorer, double-click Wd2ksec_a.exe.
  6. Type C:\Wordcom in the Please type the location where you want to place the extracted files box, and then click OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to create the folder.
  7. Connect with full permissions to the server that contains the administrative installation of Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
  8. Click Start, click Run, and then type the command line for the Windows Installer with the appropriate options for the Word 2000 SR-1 Mail Command Security Update. Use the following syntax:

    msiexec /p c:\wordcom\OQFE7785_Admin.msp /a Admin Path\Data1.msi SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE

    where Admin Path is the path to your administrative installation point.
  9. Click Next in the Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode dialog box.

How to Update Network Clients with the Word 2000 SR-1 Mail Command Security Update

To update existing workstation computers from an administrative installation point, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box:

    msiexec /i Admin Path\Data1.msi REINSTALL=WORDFiles REINSTALLMODE=vomus

    where Admin Path is the path to your administrative installation point.
  2. Click OK when the update is finished.
  3. Click Yes if you are prompted to restart the computer.
Your network client is now configured with the Word 2000 SR-1 Mail Command Security Update.

Troubleshooting
