SUMMARY

This article explains how to use Exchange System Manager to move Exchange 2000 Server transaction log (.log) files, temporary (.tmp) files, and checkpoint (.chk) files.

Use the following procedure to move Exchange Server 2000 transaction logs, temporary files, and checkpoint files:
  1. Start Exchange System Manager.
  2. Locate the server that contains the files you want to move.
  3. Expand the server container, and then locate the storage group that contains the files you want to move.
  4. Right-click the appropriate storage group.
  5. Click Properties from the context menu.
  6. Click the General tab.
  7. Click the Browse button next to the Transaction Log Location box to choose a new location for the .log files.
  8. Click the Browse button next to the System Path Location box to choose a new location for the .tmp and .chk files.
  9. Click OK or Apply if you are sure of your choices. Click Cancel to cancel your changes.
  10. After you click OK or Apply, you receive the following warning dialog box:

    You are about to perform the following operation(s)
    -change Exchange transaction log path location
    -change Exchange system path location
    To perform the requested operation(s), the store must be dismounted which will make it inaccessible to any users.
    Do you want to continue?

    NOTE: Only the operations you have chosen are listed in the dialog box.
  11. Click Yes if you are ready to proceed, otherwise, click No.
  12. If you click Yes, the stores (databases) are dismounted, moved, and remounted. When the procedure finishes successfully, you receive the following informational dialog box:

    The paths have been successfully changed and all the previously mounted stores are back online.

    OK

  13. Click OK to finish.
