Server Extensions Display the Former Version Instead of Service Pack 1 (270689)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1), the Server Extensions in Internet Services Manager may not display the correct SP1 version. Instead, the Server Extensions may display the version that had been installed prior to the installation of SP1.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur because the SP1 installer does not recognize the new version number for the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions Administration tool. Since it is not synchronized with the new version number, the previous version is displayed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, you must install Windows 2000 SP1, and then install Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Files that are installed from the Service Pack do not have this behavior. This behavior does not affect the functionality of the product.

SP1 upgrades the version of the Server Extensions from 4.0.2.3406 to 4.0.2.4022. However, even after the SP1 upgrade, the previous version of the Server Extensions is displayed. To confirm this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Services Manager from the Administrative Tools folder.
  2. Right-click Default Web Site and click Properties.
  3. Click the Server Extension tab.

If you use FrontPage, you can confirm the correct version, by following these steps:
  1. In FrontPage, open a Web page in the Internet Information Server (IIS) that has Server Extensions installed.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Web Settings.
  3. In the Web Setting dialog box, click the General tab.
