"Unable to Create Mapping" Error Message When You Re-create a DFS Share (270580)

SYMPTOMS
When you try to re-create a DFS share, you may receive the following error message:
Unable to create a mapping
However, you are still able to create new DFS shares after you receive the error message.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the DFS share is damaged. Note that when this occurs, you may not be able to delete the damaged share.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue:
- Log on to the Windows NT Server-based computer that hosts the DFS root as an administrator.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Services.
- Click DFS Service, and then click Startup.
- Click Disabled, and then click OK.
- Quit all programs, and then restart the server.
- Log on to the server as an administrator.
- Delete the damaged DFS share.
- Repeat steps 2-5, but enable the DFS service in step 5.
- Restart the server, and then log on as an administrator.
- Re-create the DFS share.
