Cannot Run Windows 2000 SP1 Update.exe from Saved Location (270146)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start the Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Update.exe program from a location other than the SP1 CD-ROM, you may receive the following error message:
Service Pack setup could not find the update.inf file.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you copy the Update.exe program file to another location without copying any other service pack files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, run the Update.exe program from the Windows 2000 SP1 CD-ROM.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
