XL2001: Command Buttons Are Unavailable in FileMaker Import Wizard When You Edit Query (270104)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q270104

SYMPTOMS

When you use the FileMaker Import Wizard to import data from FileMaker Pro into a Microsoft Excel 2001 workbook, and you apply filter criteria to the data, the following unexpected behavior occurs when you subsequently try to edit the query in Excel 2001:
  • Even though data fields appear in the Fields to import list, the Next button and the Finish button are not available (are dimmed), and it appears that Excel is unable to advance to the next step of the FileMaker Import Wizard.
  • When you are able to get to the next step, the field name and operation combo boxes for Criteria 2 and Criteria 3 are available (not dimmed), but they are blank, instead of displaying the default prompt "Pick a field" and "=" (the equal sign).

RESOLUTION

In the FileMaker Import Wizard, select one of the fields that already appears in the Fields to import list, and then click the Add (>) button as if to move that field to the Fields to import list again. This makes the Next button and the Finish button available.

The Criteria field name and operation combo boxes all behave correctly when you click them, even though they are displayed incorrectly at first.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac.
