XL2001: Conditional Formatting Cell Reference Changes After List Wizard Is Run (270100)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the List Wizard to apply conditional formatting to cells in a list, the cell references may be one cell removed from the reference you specify in the conditional formatting. This occurs when the following conditions are true:

The cell reference in the condition statement is relative. - and -
You set the conditional formatting as one step of the List Wizard.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, set the conditional formatting after the List Wizard is complete.

To set conditional formatting, follow these steps:

Select the cell(s) or column(s) in the list to which you want to assign conditional formatting.
On the List toolbar, click Column Settings, and then click Conditional Formatting.
Select the criteria for the condition statement, and then click Format to select the formatting to appear when the condition is true. Click OK three times to accept the changes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac.

On the Help menu, click Contents and Index, click Index, and then click F.
Scroll down until you locate format, and then click the arrow to the left to view a list of topics under the general topic.
Click Apply conditional formatting by using the List Manager.
