XL2001: Column Dragged into AutoFormatted List Is Not Formatted (270098)

SYMPTOMS

When you press SHIFT, and then use a drag and drop operation to insert a column into a list that has AutoFormatting applied, you find that the new column appears but does not contain any formatting.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  1. You press the SHIFT key while dragging the column into the list.
  2. The column is dragged from outside Excel, such as from the Office Clipboard, or from Word.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do either of the following:

Reapply the AutoFormatting

  • Click AutoFormat on the List toolbar, and then under Table format, select the AutoFormatting that you want to use. Click OK.

Update the List

Any update to the list will correct the formatting:
  • Add data to a new row in the list.
  • Click Total Row on the List toolbar. Click Total Row again to remove the total row information.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac.
