XL2001: Rotated Text in Charts Pasted into Word Is Not Printed When Chart Uses Pattern Fill Effect (270094)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac
  • Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q270094

SYMPTOMS

When you copy a chart from a Microsoft Excel 2001 workbook into a Microsoft Word 2001 document, and then print the document, any rotated (angled) text in the chart may not be printed as expected. This behavior can occur even when Print Preview in Word displays the rotated text correctly.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the rotated text in a chart has a fill-effect pattern behind it that includes black as one of its colors.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:
  • When you want to use rotated text in an Excel chart, avoid using patterns that contain the color black as the fill effect.
  • Use a texture, a picture, or a gradient as a fill effect for an Excel chart with rotated text. Rotated text is printed correctly in Word when textures, pictures, or gradients are used as chart fill effects.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
